Basic Training

Claire trains new adventurers in the basics. Claire says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your basic training."

Claire says,

"Before we begin, if you would like to change the speed of my
lessons, type 'faster' or 'slower'. You can do this at any time during
 your lessons."

Claire says,

"You have many lessons to learn <player>. You do not have to
complete them all at once. You may leave and return at any time to
 continue your lessons."

Claire says,

"There is a small test at the end of most lessons. If you
already know Aardwolf and would like to skip straight to the quiz you can
 type 'quiz' at any time."

Claire says,

"I will teach you the basics you need to be able to continue
your training through the academy and interact with Aardwolf."

Claire says,

"We will cover how to move around our world as well as how to
find help and advice from others, then we'll cover the basics of your
stats and how to train them."

Claire says,

"When we are done, I will ask you a few questions and reward
correct answers. If you would like to hear all of my lessons again before
starting the test, you can type 'restart' to start over. Typing 'repeat'
will repeat your last lesson only."

Claire sits down and thinks deeply.

Claire says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to begin or 'repeat' to see
 this introduction again."

Claire pauses to wait for your response.

Claire says,

"I am about to teach you how to find help during your
 adventures. Please listen carefully."

Claire begins a lecture in researching help...

Claire says,

"Aardwolf contains an extensive help system. Most commands,
skills, spells and features in the game have detailed helpfiles containing
 everything you need to know."

Claire says,

"To view help on a subject, enter 'Help [topic]'. For
example, type 'help kill' to view the helpfile for the kill command."

Claire says,

"You can view a summary of helpfiles using the 'index'
command. The 'index' command displays all helpfiles beginning with the
 letters you enter."

Claire says,

"To see a list of all help files in a category, use the
'contents' command. Typing 'contents' by itself will show a list of the
 help categories."

Claire says,

"You may also search helpfiles using 'help search [text]'.
Make a note of this one as you will need it for your test at the end."

Claire finishes her lecture and nods at you.

Claire says,

"Please type 'help kill' right now to see an example, then I
 shall continue your lesson."

Claire says,

"Well done <player>. Take a few seconds to review the helpfile
 before we continue."

Claire says,

"If you ever can't find the information you need in the
helpfiles, or just have a general question, you can ask on the newbie
channel. To speak on the newbie channel, type 'newbie [your message]'."

Claire says,

"Please try that now. Type 'newbie [your message]' to
introduce yourself, then we can continue."

Claire pauses to wait for you.

Claire says,

"Finally, if you need further help understanding the game,
you can ask a [Helper]. Helpers are experienced Aardwolf adventurers who
have volunteered their time to help newcomers."

Claire says,

"To see helpers online, type 'who helper'. Helpers monitor
the newbie channel, so asking there usually works."

Claire says,

"This completes our lesson on getting help in Aardwolf. The
most important concept is that almost everything has a helpfile. If you
see a term or command you do not recognize, chances are there is a
 helpfile already written on it."

Claire says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to learn about moving
around Andolor, the Aardwolf game world."

Claire says,

"Our next lesson covers how to move around Aardwolf and how
to return to the academy from any location."

Claire begins a lecture in basic movement...

Claire says,

"Movement around Andolor is based on the directions north,
east, south, west, up and down. You see the exits in your room displayed
whenever you move, or whenever you type 'look'. To see more detail on the
 exits, type 'exits'."

Claire says,

"There are many other ways to move such as entering portals
and using magic. In some rooms, special actions such as 'climb ladder' or
'push button' may also cause you to move."

Claire says,

"You will learn more about movement in Navigation training.
For now, the most important things for you to know are the 6 standard
movement commands and the 'recall' command."

Claire says,

"From anywhere in the Academy or Aylor, our main city, typing
'recall' takes you to the Grand Temple of Aylor. From there, move 'up'
then move 'north' to return to the academy entrance. Recall works from
most other areas and rooms in Andolor."

Claire says,

"If you already understand basic movement, you will find the
'run' 'runto', 'speedwalk' and 'find' commands of interest."

Claire says,

"This completes our lesson on basic movement. Please type
'next' when you are ready to learn about tracking your academy
 progress."

Claire says,

"Let's continue with some basic school administration and how
to track your progress through the academy. Typing the following commands
 will help you track progress..."

Claire says,

"Type 'goals' to view all known goals and whether or not you
 have completed them."

Claire says,

"To see goal details and known tasks within a specific goal,
 type 'goals <goal name>'."

Claire says,

"To see all outstanding tasks within any goal, just type the
 command 'tasks'."

Claire says,

"Please type 'goals academy' now to review your open tasks so
 far."

Claire says,

"Well done <player>! Take some time to study your goal
description and task list. Type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Claire says,

"Let's move on to review your stats. Type 'score' now to see
some important information about your character."

Claire says,

"Take some time to study your score card then type 'next'
when you are ready to move on."

Claire says,

"The score card shows your stats in the top left corner. Your
stats are very important in how you play your character, so we shall
 review each one in turn."

Claire says,

"Strength determines how hard you hit during combat, the
amount of equipment you can carry and affects most physical abilities."

Claire says,

"Dexterity helps avoid attacks, determines how often you
attack during combat and affects many skills, particularly those used by
 thieves."

Claire says,

"Intelligence increases your magical attacks, affects how
quickly you learn new abilities, helps you avoid harmful effects and
determines how much mana you will gain with each level increase."

Claire says,

"Wisdom increases the damage and healing ability of cleric
and ranger spells, determines the amount of protection you receive from
spells such as sanctuary, and affects the number of practice sessions you
will receive with each level increase."

Claire says,

"Constitution reduces damage taken overall, determines your
hit point gain when you increase in level and is important for most
 warrior abilities."

Claire says,

"Luck is the primary stat for nothing, but affects almost
every ability to a lesser degree. Training luck is recommended as you
increase in level but can be left until later for all classes except
 Psionicists."

Claire says,

"As a mage, intelligence and wisdom are your most important
 stats."

Claire says,

"Note that no stat should be ignored completely as they all
have an important role to play. To see a reminder of what each stat does,
type 'help stats'. Each stat also has its own helpfile containing more
 details."

Claire says,

"I will give you some time to take that all in. Please type
'next' when you are ready to move on."

Claire says,

"Let's move on to how you increase your stats..."

Claire says,

"You can train your stats here or in your guild room whenever
 you have training sessions available."

Claire says,

"Your cost to train in each stat is determined by the amount
you already have in the stat and your race. See 'help train' for more
 information on training stats."

Claire says,

"Please type 'train' now to view your training costs."

Claire says,

"Your basic training lessons are now complete."

Claire smiles at you.

Claire says,

"Let's review your progress with a few questions. I will
reward 50 experience points for each correct answer. You can repeat a
 question by typing 'repeat'."

Claire asks,

"Which of the following is not a player stat on Aardwolf?"
   A) Constitution
   B) Luck
   C) Intelligence
   D) Charisma
   E) Dexterity

Claire says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your answer.
For example, to choose option 'A', answer by typing 'tell claire a'."

Claire pauses to wait for your answer.

Claire says,

"Review my blackboard ('look blackboard') for help with this
 question:"

Claire asks,

"Which command would you type to view your training costs?"
   A) Score
   B) Costs
   C) Train
   D) Raceinfo
   E) Goals

Claire says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Claire pauses to wait for your answer.

Claire says,

"Your final question is a little tougher."

Claire thinks for a moment. Claire asks,

"Name the helpfile that contains the phrase 'visible
 exits'?"

Claire says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Claire pauses to wait for your answer.

Claire says,

"The blackboard in this room contains a basic training
summary if you need some help."

Claire exclaims,

 "That is correct <player>!"

Claire says,

"You have now completed basic training, well done. Your next
lesson is in magic and skills which you can find to the east of here."

Claire says, "Remember that you can type 'goals academy' to see your

 progress and assigned tasks."

Claire bows before you.

  • Task Done : Complete Basic training in the Aylorian Academy.
  • Task Added : Complete Skills / Spells training in the Aylorian Academy.

Skills / Spells training

Vorth, the skills trainer prepares a new lesson. Vorth says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your skills training."

Vorth says,

"Before we begin let me remind you that you can change the
speed of my lessons by typing 'faster' or 'slower'. You can do this at any
 time during my lessons."

Vorth says,

"Your skills and spells are extremely important while
adventuring in Aardwolf. They will protect you, enhance you, harm your
enemies and provide many other benefits."

Vorth says,

"As you grow your character, you will learn increasingly more
powerful skills and spells. My lessons will teach you how to use and
increase your abilities. I will also teach you a few useful shortcuts."

Vorth says,

"When we are done I will ask you a few questions and reward
correct answers. If you would like to hear my lessons again before
starting the test, you can type 'restart' to start over."

Vorth says,

"If you already know Aardwolf and would like to skip straight
to the quiz you can type 'quiz' at any time."

Vorth says,

"There is also a lesson summary on the blackboard in this
room. To view it type 'look blackboard'."

Vorth says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to continue."

Vorth says,

"The 'skills' and 'spells' commands will show the skills and
spells currently available to you and your percentage learned in each."

Vorth says,

"Using 'skills all' and 'spells all' will show all of the
skills and spells that will become available as you increase in level."

Vorth says,

"You can also see a combined list of all skills and spells by
using the command 'allspells'. To see all of the abilities available to
other guilds, use 'allspells [guild name]'."

Vorth says,

"Please type 'spells' now to view your spells before we
 continue the lesson."

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth says,

"Great! Now type 'skills' to view your skills."

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth says,

"Take some time to examine your skills and spells in more
detail. Each skill and spell has its own helpfile explaining how it works
and which stats affect its use."

Vorth says,

"Just type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Vorth says,

"The skills and spells commands can also be used with extra
arguments to show only skills/spells of a certain type."

Vorth says,

"For example, 'spells combat' shows only spells that are used
in combat and 'skills dodge' shows only skills that help you avoid
 attacks."

Vorth says,

"Type 'help spells' to see the types and other options for
listing skills and spells. Here's a hint, <player>: you will need that
 helpfile for the quiz."

Vorth winks at you.

Vorth says,

"Please spend a little time reviewing 'help spells' then type
'next' when you are ready to move on."

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth says,

"Let's move on to how you can increase your skills and spells.
Please type 'learned' to see a summary of your abilities."

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth says,

"Your expertise in a skill or spell increases from successful
use or by using practice sessions either here or in your guild. To spend a
practice session to increase a skill or spell, use the command 'practice
 [spell name]'."

Vorth says,

"The 'learned' command shows how many practice sessions you
have available and practices are also shown in your score sheet."

Vorth says,

"The amount a skill or spell increases with each practice
session is based on the skill or spell itself and your intelligence."

Vorth says,

"You will earn more practice sessions with each level increase
and for completing quests and campaigns - these are covered in later
 academy lessons."

Vorth says,

"A new adventurer will typically want to practice a dodge
skill and an attack to start. Your main weapon skill is already
 practiced."

Vorth says,

"As a mage, you should practice Blink and Dodge first."

Vorth says,

"I will pause here for a while to allow you to study the
helpfiles for your abilities and practice as necessary, then we will move
on to how to actually use your skills and spells."

Vorth says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth says,

"To use a skill, you just type the skill name. Many skills are
used in combat and will only work while you are fighting. Other skills
require a target to be given."

Vorth says,

"The target can be another character, a piece of equipment, a
door or many other things depending on what the skill does. The helpfiles
for each skill contain more details on how to use them."

Vorth says,

"To use a spell, use the 'Cast' command. As with skills,
spells may also require a target depending on their purpose. If a spell
has more than one word in its name you need to surround it with quotes
when casting. For example, to cast 'magic missile' at a kobold you would
 enter 'cast 'magic missile' kobold'."

Vorth says,

"With combat spells, if you are already fighting they default
to your current target. If you were already fighting the kobold in the
previous example, you could just enter 'cast 'magic missile''."

Vorth says,

"There is a shortcut to casting spells. Each spell has a
unique spell number that is shown in your spells list."

Vorth says,

"You can also see the spell number and what level each class
gets a spell by using the 'showspell' command. Please try this now - type
'showspell magic missile' then we shall continue"

Vorth pauses to wait for you.

Vorth exclaims, "Good job <player>!"

Vorth says,

"You can see that magic missile is spell number 62. The
shortcut to casting magic missile is 'cast 62' or 'cast 62 [target]' if
 you are not in combat."

Vorth says,

"Let's get some practice actually using skills and spells.
There is a practice area in the basement. Head 'down' and try out your
skills and spells on the dummies there. Feel free to explore the rest of
the basement, but read carefully. Return here when you are ready to
 continue."

Vorth says,

"Welcome back, <player>. Please type 'next' when you are ready
to continue with your skills training. Type 'repeat' to repeat your last
lesson or 'restart' to start over."

Vorth says,

"Our final lesson covers affects on your character. Many
skills and spells will temporarily affect you in some way. Magical items
may increase your skills while worn, and some abilities have a recovery
time before they can be used again."

Vorth says,

"All affects on your character can be seen with the 'affects'
 command."

Vorth stops to prepare a spell.

You are surrounded by Vorth's force shield. You feel protected by Vorth's armor spell. Vorth says,

"Type 'affects' now to see your affects."

Vorth says,

"Not all affects are good for you, some monsters may use
spells such as poison that affect you negatively. To see only bad affects
on your character, you can use 'affects bad'."

Vorth says,

"You can also view a shortened version of affects showing only
the affect and time remaining using the 'saffects' command."

Vorth says,

"Congratulations <player>. You have completed all of my lessons.
If you want to restart, type 'restart' now. If you want to review the
lesson notes, type 'look blackboard'. If you are ready for the quiz, type
 'next'."

Vorth says,

"Let's review your progress with a few questions. I will
reward 50 experience points for each correct answer. You can repeat a
 question by typing 'repeat'."

Vorth asks, "What command would you type to see only spells that add

 resistance bonuses to the target?"
   A) Resists
   B) Affects resists
   C) Spells resist
   D) Allspells resist
   E) Resistspells

Vorth says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your
 answer."

Vorth pauses to wait for your answer.

Vorth says,

"Here's the next question in skills and spells..."

Vorth asks, "What spell number is the "fireball" spell?" Vorth says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Vorth stops to wait for your answer.

Vorth exclaims, "That is correct <player>!" You receive 50 experience points.

Vorth says,

"And now for the final question..."

Vorth asks, "What command would you type to see which skills and spells

 are currently affecting you?"

Vorth says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Vorth stops to wait for your answer.

Vorth says,

"That is correct <player>! You have now completed skills and
 spells training, well done."

Vorth says,

"Ready for some action? Your next lesson is hunting and combat
training. Head West, North, North, West from here to visit Commander Dahr
 for your next lesson."

Vorth smiles at you. You receive 50 experience points. You receive 1,000 gold from Vorth.

  • Task Done : Complete Skills / Spells training in the Aylorian Academy.
  • Task Added : Complete Hunting / Combat training in the Aylorian Academy.

Combat training

Commander Dahr says,

"Before we begin, see 'help academy' for a reminder
 of options available during lessons."

Commander Dahr chuckles, "My job here is to teach you how to find things

to kill and then, well, how to kill them :)"

Commander Dahr says,

"Whenever you defeat an enemy in combat, you receive
experience points. Once you gain enough experience, you increase in level
and learn new abilities. You generally want to find victims that reward
 the most experience points."

Commander Dahr says,

"The amount of experience rewarded for killing a
monster depends on a number of things but there are two main factors
 involved."

Commander Dahr says,

"The first is level difference: you receive more
experience for killing higher level monsters. The second is alignment
difference: how good or evil you are compared to how good or evil your
victim is. You receive more experience for defeating monsters with an
 opposite alignment."

Commander Dahr says,

"While hunting, your aim is to find victims slightly
higher level than you but not so high level that they will kill you, and
victims with an alignment opposite to yours."

Commander Dahr says,

"My lessons will teach you how to do that. For now,
take some time to study 'help experience' and 'help alignment', then type
'next' when you are ready to move on."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"Let's move on to learn how to find monsters in your
 level range."

Commander Dahr says,

"The 'areas' command shows all the areas available in
Andolor. To restrict the areas listed to a specific level, use 'areas
[start level] [end level]'. There are several other ways to filter the
areas listed - more on this can be seen in 'help areas'."

Commander Dahr says,

"Another extremely useful command for finding good
hunting areas is the 'mobdeaths' command. Mobdeaths shows the most killed
monsters in a level range. Seeing where others in your level range are
hunting is a great way to find new areas to explore."

Commander Dahr says,

"You can also filter mobdeaths by alignment to list
only monsters considered evil or good. For example, to list the most
killed evil monsters between level 1 and 5, use 'mobdeaths 1 5 evil'."

Commander Dahr says,

"In addition to these two commands, page 6 of the
Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide you started with shows some good lower level
areas. To view this, type 'read page6'. Browsing the other pages of your
guide is also recommended, as it contains a lot of useful information."

Commander Dahr says,

"Take some time to read the helpfiles on 'areas' and
'mobdeaths' then experiment with the commands. Our next lesson shows you
how to find your way to an area. Type 'next' when you are ready to move
 on."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"Once you have decided which area you want to hunt
in, you need to figure out how to get there."

Commander Dahr says,

"Most areas have already been explored and mapped by
other explorers. A list of directions to those areas is available."

Commander Dahr says,

"To view a list of areas with directions, use the
'speedwalks' command. You can search the list using 'speedwalks [text]'.
For example, to find directions to the Forest of Li'dnesh, enter the
command 'speedwalks lidnesh'. Please try this now, I will wait for you."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"The directions given by the speedwalks command are
from the Grand Temple of Aylor."

Commander Dahr says,

"To get to the Grand Temple from here, either
'recall' or walk to the Academy entrance and head 'down'. Recalling is
easier but costs half your movement points."

Commander Dahr says,

"Almost all of the speedwalks listed begin with
'run'. Run is a command used to enter multiple directions at once. When
you are at the Grand Temple, travel to the target area by entering the run
 command listed."

Commander Dahr says,

"For example, to run from the Grand Temple of Aylor
to the Forest of Li'dnesh, enter 'run 2s8e5ne5n3e'."

Commander Dahr says,

"Some of the directions listed contain ';' which
means that multiple commands are necessary. 'Help speedwalks' gives more
information on how to use these."

Commander Dahr says,

"Another very easy way to get around is by using the
runto command. This is an automatic speedwalk command that uses the area
name instead of the speedwalk. For example, to get from the Grand Temple
of Aylor to the Forest of Lidnesh, enter runto lidnesh."

Commander Dahr says,

"Take some time to review 'help speedwalks', 'help
run' and help runto before we move on. In our next lesson we cover what to
do once you arrive and are ready to fight."

Commander Dahr exclaims, "Type 'next' when you are ready to learn the fun

 part, killin'!"

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"While exploring an area for the first time, type
'look' in each new room you visit - many room descriptions warn of danger
and places you should avoid. There may also be signs posted; if someone
took the time to leave a sign there it is a probably wise to read it."

Commander Dahr says,

"Once you are ready to start fighting, the single
most important command you need to know about is 'consider'. Consider
gives a rough estimate of your chances of defeating the target by
 comparing your level to theirs."

Commander Dahr says,

"To consider a monster enter 'consider [name]'. 'Help
consider' shows what the messages mean. You can also type 'consider all'
to consider all targets in the room at once."

Commander Dahr says,

"This is a very important part of your lesson, please
try it now. Consider me to move on, using either 'consider dahr' or
 'consider all'"

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"I will briefly cover some other useful commands for
finding and examining monsters in your area."

Commander Dahr says,

"The 'scan' command shows all visible monsters in the
surrounding locations. You can also scan in a single direction by typing,
 for example, 'scan north'."

Commander Dahr says,

"The 'where' command is used to show all other
visible players in the area, or to find a specific monster. Type 'where'
on its own to see all players in the area. To find a kobold in the area,
you would type 'where kobold'. The helpfile for 'where' contains more
 information."

Commander Dahr says,

"Lastly, the 'study' command shows the health of all
characters in the same room as you. Type 'study' now to see an example,
then I will cover the basics of what to do while actually in combat."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"You learned how to initiate combat with a monster
during skills and spells training. As a reminder, use 'kill [target]' or
start combat with an attack skill/spell. Note that some monsters are
considered 'aggressive' and attack on sight."

Commander Dahr says,

"If your hit points start to get too low, you can
attempt to run away from a fight by typing 'flee' to leave the room or
'recall' to return to Aylor. You will lose a little experience for fleeing
or recalling, but far less than by dying."

Commander Dahr says,

"You can also use the 'wimpy' command to attempt to
flee automatically if your hit points fall below a certain amount. For
example, typing 'wimpy 30' sets your character to attempt to flee if your
hit points fall below 30. Please try this now, I will wait for you."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"During combat you are shown your target's status
after each round of combat. Your prompt also changes to your 'battle
prompt'. Your battle prompt contains the percentage of health your target
 has remaining."

Commander Dahr says,

"Prompts are highly configurable and are covered
later in your academy training. If you want to learn more about them now,
 read 'help prompt'."

Commander Dahr says,

"When your target's hit points fall below 0, it is
dead. Most monsters leave behind a corpse that may contain some gold or
 equipment when they die."

Commander Dahr says,

"By default, you automatically loot gold and
equipment from corpses then sacrifice the corpse to receive a little extra
 gold."

Commander Dahr says,

"You can turn these options on and off using the
commands 'autogold', 'autoloot' and 'autosac'. There are many other
configuration options available that are beyond the scope of this lesson.
You can view them by typing 'config all' - the commands listed each have
 their own helpfile."

Commander Dahr says,

"If you gain a level, remember to return to the
academy or your guild to train your stats and practice your new skills
 before continuing."

Commander Dahr says,

"We have covered a lot in my lessons <player>. Please
take some time to study the blackboard and related helpfiles. When you are
ready to move on, I have a special assignment for you."

Commander Dahr says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to hear about my
 assignment."

Commander Dahr pauses to wait for you.

Commander Dahr says,

"My assignment will test your abilities to find an
area, find monsters in that area and kill them. You will also be
performing a great service to the wildlife of one of our most beautiful
 forests."

Commander Dahr says,

"I will give you 5,000 gold coins and a nice piece of
equipment if you complete this assignment for me."

Commander Dahr says,

"If you want to hear my lessons again, now is the
last chance to 'restart'. Once you complete my assignment, you will be
 unable to restart the lessons."

Commander Dahr says,

"Please type or say 'accept' if you want to take this
assignment. You can leave and start the assignment later if you would
 prefer."

Commander Dahr waits for your decision.

Commander Dahr says,

"The beautiful Forest of Li'Dnesh is at risk from a
sudden increase in the viper population. Your assignment is to travel to
the Forest of Li'Dnesh and kill the vipers until you find a viper skin.
Return the skin to me so that the academy researchers can study the vipers
further. I will also take a piece of the skin and craft a nice belt for
 you."

Commander Dahr says,

"To complete this assignment you need to review your
lesson notes. Find the speedwalk to the Forest of Li'Dnesh, make your way
there and find the vipers. Feel free to explore the forest while you are
there, but remember to 'consider' other creatures before attacking them -
some may be much bigger than you."

Commander Dahr says,

"When you have found a viper skin please return here
and hand it to me. Good luck <player>! We are counting on you."

Commander Dahr says,

"Welcome back, <player>. I see you were able to find a
viper skin. Please give it to me to complete your assignment. Use the
command 'give viper dahr' to give the skin to me."

You give a piece of viper skin to Commander Dahr. Commander Dahr says,

"Thank you <player>! Studying this will help us find a
way to cure the overpopulation of vipers in Li'Dnesh. Here is the gold and
 the belt I promised you."

Commander Dahr crafts a piece of the viper skin into a belt. You receive a Viper Skin Belt from Commander Dahr. You receive 5,000 gold from Commander Dahr. Commander Dahr says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to receive
 instructions for your next lesson."

Commander Dahr says,

"Well done <player>, you have now completed hunting and
combat training. While hunting in the wild you will lose hitpoints and
consume spell points/movement points. You may even die from time to time.
Your next lesson is in the Academy clinic 2 east from here where our
healer, Nurse Orcron, will cover regeneration and what to do if you
 die."

Health training

Nurse Orcron says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please 'start' when you are ready to
 start your health training."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Before we begin, see 'help academy' for a reminder of
 options available during lessons."

Nurse Orcron says,

"My lessons teach you how to manage your health while
exploring Aardwolf. You will learn how to heal, how to find help if you
become poisoned or diseased, and what to do should you die."

Nurse Orcron says,

"I do not explain everything in detail, I point you in
the right direction and expect that at this stage in your lessons you know
how to find and read helpfiles."

Nurse Orcron says,

"While adventuring, you may lose hit points in any
number of ways, use movement points while exploring, and if you are
 casting spells, consume mana."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Every 30 seconds or so the game ticks. Each time the
game ticks, you regenerate. How much you regenerate depends on several
things, the most important being whether or not you are sleeping, if you
are hungry, and the room you rest in."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Please read 'help tick' now, then type 'next' when you
 are ready to move on."

Nurse Orcron pauses to wait for you.

Nurse Orcron says,

"To sleep, just type 'sleep'. Furniture (such as beds)
in a room may increase the rate at which you heal. To sleep in/on a piece
of furniture, use 'sleep [item name]'. When you are ready to wake, type
 'wake'."

Nurse Orcron says,

"The room you sleep in is important; some rooms have
enhanced heal rates, such as those in clan halls and private manors. The
recovery room to the North also has enhanced regeneration rate."

Nurse Orcron says,

"If you are hungry or thirsty, you regenerate slower.
Your 'score' card shows your hunger and thirst status. There is also a
'hunger' command which shows hunger status."

Nurse Orcron says,

"To eat or drink you type 'eat [food item]' and 'drink
[drink source]'. You can find food and drink at many of the stores in
 Aylor and around Andolor."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Some magical fountains restore both hunger and thirst.
There is a fountain in the corner of my room. Why not take a sip? Type
'drink fountain'. When you are done, we shall move on to other subjects
 affecting your general health."

Nurse Orcron pauses to wait for you.

Nurse Orcron says,

"Some monsters may poison you or add other affects that
prevent you from healing. You can cure these with spells such as 'cure
poison' and 'cure disease'. Depending on your guild, you may be able to
cast these spells for yourself. If not, you can find potions containing
these spells in the Aylor marketplace."

Nurse Orcron says,

"There are also healers in the game that will cure you
for a fee. A healer is found North of the Grand Temple of Aylor. To see a
list of services these healers provide, visit one and type 'heal'."

Nurse Orcron says,

"In addition to regenerating while resting, there are
spells that will restore hit points, mana and movement points."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Mana can be restored using magical 'Black Lotus'
pills. There are several skills and spells that can restore health and
movement points. To see a summary of these skills and spells type
 'contents healing'."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Please take some time to review our material so far
then type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Nurse Orcron says,

"As with the cure spells, many heal and refresh spells
can be found on potions in the Aylorian Marketplace and other stores in
the game. Finding and using shops is covered in Economics training."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Finally, other players with these spells can also cast
them on you. It is often useful to group with another player so that you
can hunt together and help each other. This is covered in 'help group'."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Our next lesson covers what to do if you are
unfortunate enough to die. Please type 'next' when you are ready to learn
 about death."

Nurse Orcron pauses to wait for you.

Nurse Orcron says,

"Sooner or later while exploring Aardwolf, you will
die. When you die, you will return to the Aylorian Hospital. If you die to
a monster you will lose some experience and may possibly lose a stat."

Nurse Orcron says,

"After dying, your main concern is healing yourself and
finding your corpse. Any equipment you were carrying will be in your
corpse in the room where you died. Typing 'ownedwhere' will show the
 location of your corpse."

Nurse Orcron says,

"In some cases, you will be able to simply heal and
walk to your corpse to retrieve it. To get all the items from your corpse,
 type 'get all corpse'."

Nurse Orcron says,

"If the corpse is in a dark room or outside at night,
picking up a light from Grizrol's grocery store before leaving the city is
recommended. From anywhere in Aylor, typing 'find groceries' gives
 directions."

Nurse Orcron says,

"If you die in a room full of aggressive monsters that
are too big for you, or are having trouble finding your corpse, see if you
can find a [Helper] to assist you. If no helpers are available, other
players may be able to help."

Nurse Orcron says,

"Your corpse lasts for 3 hours of real time. If you
quit the game, your corpse is saved with you and the timer stops until the
 next time you log in."

Nurse Orcron says,

"As a last resort, if you can't get to your corpse and
nobody is available to help, you can 'quit' and try again later, knowing
that your corpse is safe in the meantime."

Nurse Orcron says,

"That's all I have to teach you <player>. Please read
'help death' and 'help cr' for more information on death and corpse
 retrieval."

Nurse Orcron says,

"There is no quiz for my lesson. If you are ready to
move on type 'next'. Otherwise, you can type 'restart' to see my lessons
 again."

Nurse Orcron pauses to wait for you.

Nurse Orcron says,

"You have now completed health training, well done.
Take these potions <player>, they may prove useful in the wild."

Nurse Orcron starts to prepare some restorative potions.

You receive Academy Healing Potion from Nurse Orcron. You receive Academy Healing Potion from Nurse Orcron. You receive Academy Refresh Potion from Nurse Orcron. You receive Academy Refresh Potion from Nurse Orcron. You receive Academy Black Lotus Potion from Nurse Orcron. You receive Academy Black Lotus Potion from Nurse Orcron. Nurse Orcron says,

"Your next lesson is equipment training with the
academy armorer. Filt is located to the northwest of here."
  • Task Done : Complete Health training in the Aylorian Academy.
  • Task Added : Complete Equipment training in the Aylorian Academy.

Nurse Orcron says,

"Remember that you can type 'goals academy' to see your
 progress and assigned tasks."

Equipment training

Filt says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your equipment training."

Filt says,

"I am about to teach you how to organize and use the equipment
 you find during your adventures."

Filt says,

"There are many different equipment types such as weapons,
armor, shields, wands, scrolls and food. Different items are used in
different ways. My lessons teach you the basics with further reading
recommended to learn the details of equipment in Aardwolf."

Filt says,

"To see the equipment you are carrying, use the command
'inventory'. To see the equipment you are actively using, type
'equipment'. These two commands can be abbreviated as 'inv' and 'eq'."

Filt says,

"The 'get', 'drop' and 'put' commands allow you to manipulate
your inventory. The 'give' command is used to give items to other
characters in the game. To get a sword on the ground, type 'get sword'. To
 drop it, type 'drop sword'."

Filt says,

"If you are carrying more than one sword and want to drop the
second one, type 'drop 2.sword'. Using 'drop second.sword' or 'drop
2nd.sword' also works. To drop all the swords in your inventory, use 'drop
 all.sword'."

Filt says,

"The '2.item' and 'all.item' syntax also works with get, put,
sell and several other commands. For more details and options, read 'help
 get'."

Filt says,

"Let's take a look at your inventory and equipment. Type 'inv'
then 'eq' to move on. In the next lesson we will discuss containers."

Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Now type 'eq' to see your equipment."

Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Many items in the game such as bags and chests are considered
'containers'. Containers are used to store other items so they don't
clutter your inventory. Some containers are magical and allow you to carry
more than you would normally be able. Read 'help containers' for more
 information on containers."

Filt says,

"To see items in a container named 'bag', use the command 'look
in bag'. To take items from the same container, use 'get [item] from
 bag'."

Filt says,

"To put items in a container, use 'put [item] in bag'. The
'2.item' and 'all.item' options also work with containers. For example, to
put all your swords in a bag, you would enter 'put all.sword in bag'."

Filt says,

"Sometimes you want to make sure you don't accidentally drop or
lose an item. To mark an item so that you cannot drop it or give it to
monsters, use the 'keep [item]' command. To see more on this, read 'help
 keep'."

Filt says,

"Let's get some practice with containers. Here's a bag
containing a couple of useful pieces of equipment. Firstly, 'keep' the bag
 to move on."

You receive an Aylorian Academy Training Bag from Filt. Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Great, now remove the items from the bag. Keep the items in
your inventory for now then type 'next' to continue."

Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Please remove the wristband and boots from the bag I gave to
you and keep them in your inventory. Then type 'next' to continue. If you
have lost them, you can 'repeat' this lesson."

Filt says,

"I need to take the bag from you, but feel free to use the
 other equipment."

You return the academy training bag to Filt.

Filt says,

"To wear a piece of equipment, use the 'wear' command. For
weapons, use 'wield'. To equip a wand or a portal, 'hold' the item. To
remove an item, use the 'remove' command."

Filt says,

"Remove can also be used with a specific wear location. For
example, to remove whatever is worn around your waist, type 'remove
 waist'."

Filt says,

"You can only wear items your own level or lower and some items
may have other restrictions such as evil only or good only. Other items
will add bonuses to resistances, skills or stats while worn. The
'identify' command shows you the basic stats of an item."

Filt says,

"To see the full stats on a piece of equipment, visit Hester's
item appraisals in Aylor to identify the item for a fee. To find Hester's,
type 'find identify' from anywhere within the city of Aylor."

Filt says,

"Appraising an item in a store or auctioning it also shows the
full stats; these are covered in the economics lesson. Finally, depending
on your guild, you may be able to 'identify' or 'lore' items for yourself
as you increase in level. There is also an identify wish."

Filt says,

"There are many item types and identify will show a slightly
different format depending on the type of item. We cannot cover all item
types in this lesson, but their use is fairly intuitive."

Filt says,

"You wear armor, you wield a weapon, you put things into a
container, you sail in a boat, you eat a pill and quaff a potion. As
always, the helpfiles contain further information."

Filt says,

"Let's take a short break. Please type 'next' when you are
 ready to move on."

Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Another very important thing to know is that you can only save
items up to 10 levels higher than you. If you try to quit the game with
items higher level than this, you will receive a warning."

Filt says,

"Keys and some other items do not save at all when you quit the
game. As your character grows you may choose to buy the 'keepall' wish
which allows you to save with higher level items. Wishes are covered later
 in your training."

Filt says,

"Finally, it is important for you to know what the object flags
in identify mean. To see a list of object flags, type 'help object flags'.
Please pay attention to this one closely, you will need it for the
 test."

Filt says,

"My lessons are now complete. If you want to see them again
type 'restart', otherwise, type 'next' to start the test."

Filt pauses to wait for you.

Filt says,

"Let's review your progress with a few questions. I will reward
50 experience points for each correct answer. You can repeat a question by
 typing 'repeat'."

Filt asks, "Which command is used to flag an item so that you cannot drop

 it or auction it?"
   A) Hold
   B) Keepall
   C) Unkeep
   D) Curse Item
   E) Keep

Filt says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your answer."

Filt pauses to wait for your answer.

Filt asks, "Which command is used to view the stats and type of an item in

 your inventory?"
   A) Identify
   B) Lore
   C) Evaluate
   D) Appraise
   E) Bid

Filt says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your answer."

Filt pauses to wait for your answer.

Filt says,

"This question is a little harder. Read 'help object flags' to
 find the answer."

Filt asks, "Which object flag allows an item to be seen and manipulated

even if you are temporarily blinded?"
   A) Visible
   B) Glow
   C) Bless
   D) Illuminated
   E) Hum

Filt says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your answer."

Filt pauses to wait for your answer.

Filt says,

"You have now completed equipment training, congratulations!
Your next lesson is economics with Vladia, 2 east of here."

You receive 50 experience points.

You receive 1,000 gold from Filt.

Economy training

Vladia says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your economics training."

Vladia says,

"At the start of your adventures in Aardwolf, the economy is
mostly related to finding, spending and saving gold. Gold is used to buy
equipment from stores or from auction, and, to obtain potions that help
 you in various ways."

Vladia says,

"There is a very active economy where players exchange rare
items and services for gold. Some characters you encounter while exploring
even require you to bribe them with gold to pass by them or learn a
secret. Knowing how to find gold is a very useful skill."

Vladia says,

"The gold you have available is shown in your 'score' card.
The 'worth' command also displays a summary of your gold on hand and any
gold you have saved in the bank. Please try that now, type 'worth' to view
your gold on hand then our lessons will continue."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"There are many ways to earn gold while exploring Andolor.
Pay attention <player>, I am about to discuss each of them briefly."

Vladia says,

"The most common way to earn gold is by killing monsters.
Most monsters will leave some gold in their corpse. Monster corpses can
also be sacrificed for a little extra gold."

Vladia says,

"Equipment that you loot from corpses can be sold in various
shops throughout Andolor or auctioned off to other players. Shopping and
Auctions are discussed in detail in my next few lessons."

Vladia says,

"The questmasters are generous with their gold. As a new
player, accepting questor assignments to kill various creatures in your
level range can be one of the easiest ways to gain gold."

Vladia says,

"Mob quests are covered more in career training. Read 'help
quest' if you would like to learn about them now."

Vladia says,

"Another good, but dangerous, way to earn gold is by
completing 'campaigns' for Commander Barcett in Aylor. Campaigns are like
mob quests but involve multiple victims and are much harder. Campaigns are
 also covered in Career Training."

Vladia says,

"Some more fun ways to "earn" gold are at the blackjack
tables in Ivar's casino, from other players in Poker Tournaments or taking
your chances on the Aardwolf Lottery. Blackjack and Poker are covered
later. To learn about the lottery, please read 'help lottery'."

Vladia says,

"Finally, as you have already seen, completing tasks for many
of the characters in Andolor is rewarded with gold."

Vladia says,

"There are other ways to earn gold in Aardwolf, but these
cover the main ones. My blackboard contains a summary and 'help gold' has
 some further information."

Vladia says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to learn how to use the shops
 found throughout Andolor."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"I will now cover how to evaluate items for sale in stores
and how to trade with the shopkeepers."

Vladia says,

"If you have the map turned on, whenever a room contains a
shopkeeper the '$' symbol will appear on the map."

Vladia says,

"To see the items for sale in a shop, use the 'list' command.
I have a few items for sale myself, please type 'list' now to see them."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"To access items in a shop, either use their keywords, or the
item number shown in the 'list' menu. Using the item number is more
efficient as multiple items may have the same keyword."

Vladia says,

"To see the stats of an item in a store, use the appraise
command. Please try this now, type 'appraise 3' or 'appraise cloak' to see
the stats of my cloak. Feel free to buy one while you're here."

Vladia winks suggestively at you.

Vladia says,

"To buy an item from a shop, use the command 'buy [item]'. To
buy multiple items, use the command 'buy [amount] [item]'. For example, to
buy 2 packed lunches from me, enter 'buy 2 lunch' or 'buy 2 2'."

Vladia says,

"To sell an item to a shopkeeper, use the command 'sell
[item]'. To see how much a shopkeeper will pay for an item before you sell
it, or to check if they can afford it, use 'value [item]'."

Vladia says,

"After a long hunting session you may have many items to
sell. The command 'sell all' or 'sell all.[item]' can be used to sell
multiple items to a shopkeeper at once. Be sure to 'keep' items that you
want to hang on to first."

Vladia says,

"Not all shopkeepers deal in all kinds of items. Shopkeepers
can also run out of gold if they buy a lot of items without selling
 any."

Vladia says,

"Different shopkeepers also have different profit margins, so
it really can pay to shop around when selling items. Over time, you will
learn which shopkeepers are the best for which types of item."

Vladia says,

"If an item has particularly high stats for its level or has
other value, you may find that it fetches a much higher price in auction.
Auctions are covered in our next lesson. For now, let's get some shopping
 practice."

Vladia says,

"Please buy 2 packed lunches and a lantern from me, then type
 'next' to move on."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"Aardwolf has an active auction market. The main commands to
use the auction system are 'auction' and 'bid'."

Vladia says,

"To see all the item up for auction at any given time, type
'bid'. To see the stats of an item up for auction, enter 'bid [item
number]'. To place a bid on an item, enter 'bid [number] [amount]'. If
someone outbids you, you will be notified and have a chance to bid
 again."

Vladia says,

"To sell an item on auction, enter 'auction [item]'. To set a
minimum bid on an item use 'auction [item] [min bid]'. Note that if your
item does not sell it is retained by the auctioneer and removed from the
game, so don't set unrealistic minimum bids."

Vladia says,

"There are many other options when using auctions. You can
set the auction channel so that you only see items your level range or see
all items. You can also view auction history using 'auction -h'. Other
options are covered in 'help auction'."

Vladia says,

"I see that you have the auction channel turned off <player>. I
am going to turn your auction channel on so that we can continue this
lesson. Feel free to turn it off when we are done."

Turning ON the auction channel.

Vladia says,

"When you sell an item on auction, there is a 10% fee which
is deducted when the item is sold. If you buy your own item, the fee is
 increased to 20%."

Vladia says,

"Watching the items on auction can be a great way to find new
equipment. Many other players specialise in crafting or enchanting
equipment and sell heavily enhanced items via auction."

Vladia says,

"Requesting auctions on 'barter' or another channel can also
be a good way to get food or a light if you are stuck in the wild and need
 help."

Vladia says,

"Let's try an auction. This academy leaflet is well known as
a fund-raiser for new students. Even though the item has no practical
value, sometimes players will bid on these just to help a new explorer get
started. Auction the leaflet and wait for the auction to end before
 continuing."

You receive an academy fundraising leaflet from Vladia. Vladia says,

"Type 'next' when you are ready to move on to learn about
 banking in Andolor."

Vladia says,

"As your gold increases, carrying all of it around with you
is not recommended. Some creatures attempt to steal gold from you."

Vladia says,

"There are a number of banks in Andolor where you may deposit
and withdraw gold. Gold stored in the bank is always safe. There is a bank
in Aylor; to see directions from anywhere in Aylor use 'find bank'. This
room is a branch of the Aylorian Bank, so we can practice here."

Vladia says,

"The 'worth' command shows how much gold you have stored in
the bank. To put gold in the bank, use 'deposit [amount]'. To take gold
out of the bank, use 'withdraw [amount]'."

Vladia says,

"Let's get some practice. Deposit 10 gold in the bank here to
 move on."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"This completes most of the basics you need to know about
gold. As you progress through the game, 'quest points' and 'trivia points'
 become much more important."

Vladia says,

"'Qp' and 'tp', as they are commonly refered to, allow you to
buy many things including 'wishes' that enhance your character, a personal
 'manor', equipment customizations and stats."

Vladia says,

"Quest Points and Trivia are covered more in Career Training.
If you want to peek ahead, some interesting helpfiles to read are
'trivia', 'tp', 'quest', 'superhero' and 'quest items'"

Vladia says,

"Our lessons are done <player>. I have a small test for you and
then an assignment to complete before you are done with economics."

Vladia says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Vladia pauses to wait for you.

Vladia says,

"Let's review your progress with a few questions. I will
reward 50 experience points for each correct answer."

Vladia asks, "What command is used to see the stats on equipment for sale

 in a store?"
   A) Identify
   B) Lore
   C) List
   D) Appraise
   E) Bid

Vladia says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your
 answer."

Vladia pauses to wait for your answer.

Vladia says,

"This next question is about the Aardwolf banking
 system..."

Vladia asks, "What command is used to take gold out of your bank

 account?"

Vladia says,

 "Please 'tell' me your answer."

Vladia stops to wait for your answer.

Vladia says,

"The final question is about the auction system..."

Vladia asks, "What command is used to see items in the auction or place a

 bid?"
   A) Bid
   B) Auction
   C) List
   D) Appraise
   E) Inventory

Vladia says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your
 answer."

Vladia pauses to wait for your answer.

Vladia says,

"I am working on a secret project I need some components for.
Will you help me acquire these items <player>? Most of the items are in the
City of Aylor, but a couple of them must be found in other areas."

Vladia says,

"If you accept my task I will provide you with a shopping
list and rough locations on where those items are."

Vladia says,

"Use the 'find' command to find the shops in Aylor. For those
areas not in Aylor; you will need to explore to find the correct store.
The 'speedwalks' command will give directions to the area itself. You can
 alternatively use the 'runto' command."

Vladia says,

"Please type 'accept' if you want to take this assignment.
You can leave and start the assignment later if you would prefer."

Vladia waits for your decision.

Vladia says,

"Great! Here's the shopping list <player>. Type 'read list' to
read it. Please return to me when you have those items and type 'next'."

You receive Vladia's Shopping List from Vladia. Vladia says,

"Buy a boat from me <player>. You will need it."

Vladia waves goodbye to you. Have a good journey.

Vladia's shopping list:

1 - A batch of Sara's Cookies from the Aylor Eatery. 2 - A carrion crawler water skin from the Aylor Grocery Store. 3 - A griffon's blood potion from Aeleron's Alchemy Supplies in Aylor. 4 - Acuity Scroll from Mayvor's Mystic Mastery in Aylor. 5 - Crafted Leather Boots from Gueldar's Armory in Aylor. 6 - An Aylorian Dirk from Xena's weapon parlor. 7 - A Red Apple from the Kimr's Farm - picked fresh, not from store. 8 - A Reed Flute from Sen'narre Lake.

Optional - Vladia would also like a bottle of Brewington special from

the Land of the Beer Goblins.

Vladia says,

"Welcome back <player>. Do you have my items yet? Say 'yes' if
you do or to check what you are missing."

Vladia exclaims, "Great work! You collected all my items, even my beer!" Vladia gratefully accepts her shopping list items from you.

Vladia says,

"By the way, the cookies and apple were just for my lunch.
While you were out anyway, I figured you might as well pick those up."

Vladia says,

"Take these items as a small reward for your services, I
 won't be needing them."

You receive Vladia's Shopping Bag from Vladia. You receive Aylorian Academy training gloves from Vladia. You receive 2,000 gold from Vladia.

Communications training

Aaeron says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your communications training."

Aaeron says,

"Communicating with other players is an extremely important
 part of Aardwolf."

Aaeron says,

"Global communication goes to all players listening to a
channel or reading a forum. 'Say' and similar commands are sent to others
in your room only while tells are to a single person."

Aaeron says,

"There are also ways to communicate with a specific group of
players. Some of those groups may be your friends, those you are grouped
with, a single clan, only helpers or only immortals."

Aaeron says,

"My lessons give an overview of each communication type.
There are many ways to modify how you communicate and we cannot cover them
all. At the end of my lessons you will understand the basics and are
advised to study the helpfiles for other options."

Aaeron says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"Global communication takes place on 'channels'. You have
already used the newbie channel, but there are many others. Most of your
channels are off at the moment. To see a list of all channels and their
 descriptions, use the 'channels' command."

Aaeron says,

"Our examples in this lesson use the 'question' channel which
is the best place to ask questions once you no longer have access to the
newbie channel. I see you have the question channel turned off. I am
turning it on for this lesson."

Turning ON the question channel.

Aaeron says,

"To turn a channel on or off; just type its name. To talk on
a channel type the channel name followed by your message. 'socials' and
'emotes' can also be used on channels, the syntax is shown in 'help
 channels'."

Aaeron says,

"To see the history of a channel enter the channel name
followed by '-h' or '-h [number of lines]'. Please try that now, type
'question -h 10' to see the last 10 entries of question channel
 history.'"

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"The 'say' command sends a message to your current location
only. Says are so widely used that the single quote is an abbreviation for
the say command; typing 'hi is the same as 'say hi'."

Aaeron says,

"There are some fun options that can modify the verb used
from "says" to "asks" or "exclaims" for example. These are listed in 'help
 say'"

Aaeron says,

"Emotes are imaginary actions in a room. Whatever you enter
after the emote command is prefixed with your character name. For example,
if you enter 'emote hopes to graduate soon.' the rest of the room will see
 '<player> hopes to graduate soon.'."

Aaeron says,

"There are many predefined emotes that are known as
'socials'. The 'nod' command is a social, as are 'smile' and 'bow'"

Aaeron says,

"There are over 2,000 socials in total. The 'socials' command
shows a list of all available socials: To search the socials for a
specific phrase, use 'socials [search text]'. To see all output options
for a specific social, use 'shelp [social name]'."

Aaeron says,

"Here's a fun command to try. The 'random' command picks a
random social and uses it. To use a random social on a channel, enter
'[channel] *random'. Please try this now, type 'random' to move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"To communicate with a single online player privately, use
the 'tell' command. You can also leave someone a personal note they will
receive when they next login. Sending notes is covered in the next lesson,
 this lesson covers tells."

Aaeron says,

"To send a tell to a player, type 'tell [player] [message]'.
If the player is flagged as away or is in combat, you may see a message
that your tell will be saved until they can read it. To send a tell to the
last person who sent you a tell, use 'reply [message]'."

Aaeron says,

"If someone sends you a tell while you are away, or you have
'catchtells' on, type 'replay' to see it. Your tell history can be seen by
 typing 'tell -h'."

Aaeron peers around himself intently. Aaeron says,

"Sometimes, for whatever reason, you don't want to receive
 tells from a specific person. The 'ignore' command can be used for this;
see 'help ignore' for more details."

Aaeron says,

"There are many ways to configure your tell options. We
cannot cover them all here, but reading 'help page', 'help catchtells',
'help afk' and 'help deaf' will get you started."

Aaeron says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"Some channels are sent only to a specific group of players.
One of the most useful of these is your 'friend list'."

Aaeron says,

"As you meet people during your adventures, you may want to
add them to your friend list. To do so, type 'friend [player name]'. To
see a list of all the people on your friend list, type 'friend'."

Aaeron says,

"The 'ftalk' channel can be used to talk to all your online
friends at the same time. See 'help friend' for more details on how the
 friend system works."

Aaeron says,

"Some channels are for information only and notify you about
events in the game. The most important of these is 'info' which allows you
turn on and off groups of event messages."

Aaeron says,

"Type 'info' now to see an example. To turn info on/off, use
'info [channel name]' or 'noinfo' to turn them all off at once."

Aaeron says,

"Finally, there are times when you want to stop all channel
output without having to turn each channel on and off individually. The
'quiet' command does this; it is particularly useful while reading the
forums. Forums are covered in our next lesson."

Aaeron says,

"This completes the overview of channels. I strongly
recommend you type 'channels' and browse the list. Turn those on that you
think might be interesting and welcome to the Aardwolf Community!."

Aaeron says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"Channels and tells are great for communicating with people
online. Forums are more permanent. Most forums are public discussion
boards, but there is also a personal forum where you can send a private
 message to an offline player."

Aaeron says,

"Everything you need to know about using the forums is
contained in 'help forums' and 'help note'. I am only going to cover the
 basics."

Aaeron says,

"To see a list of forums you have access to, type
'subscribe'. Please try that now before we move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

"To read a forum, type 'forum [forum name]' to switch to that
forum, then 'note read' to read each note in order. Using 'note list 50'
will show the headers of only the last 50 notes."

Aaeron says,

"If you find a forum you are not interested in, you can stop
seeing announcements for it by typing 'subscribe [forum name]'. Repeat the
same command to turn it back on. Type 'subscribe' on its own to see all
 forums and their status."

Aaeron says,

"To learn how to write notes of your own, or search the list
of posted notes by author, by recipient or by title; please study 'help
 note'."

Aaeron says,

"There are two forums it is important for you to read each
time you login. The 'announce' and 'mudinfo' forums contain important
updates from the game administration and often list newly added commands
 and features."

Aaeron says,

"Finally, as a new player, the amount of notes already on the
forums can be overwhelming. You can skip over all notes on a single forum
using 'note catchup'. To skip all notes on all forums except announce and
 mudinfo, use 'note catchup all'."

Aaeron says,

"I have sent a personal note to you telling you how to move
on to the next lesson. Please read that note then we can continue. As a
reminder, 'forum personal' will switch you to that forum and 'note read'
 reads each note in order."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you to read your note.

Current forum changed to Personal. You can read and write in this forum.

Aaeron says,

"This completes our overview of most communication methods.
There are many configuration options that allow you to modify how
communication to your player is handled. These are covered in more detail
 in customization training."

Aaeron says,

"For now, I have a little test before you can complete this
lesson. Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Aaeron pauses to wait for you.

Aaeron says,

 "Here's your first question <player>..."

Aaeron asks, "Which forum is the single most important to read to learn

about game news and important updates?"
   A) Mudinfo
   B) Announce
   C) Claninfo
   D) Bugs
   E) General

Aaeron says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your
 answer."

Aaeron pauses to wait for your answer.

Aaeron says,

"The next question involves your configuration."

Aaeron asks, "Which command is used to temporarily turn on/off all

 channels at once?"
   A) Deaf
   B) Noinfo
   C) Quiet
   D) Silent
   E) Quit

Aaeron says,

"To answer, please 'tell' me the letter next to your
 answer."

Aaeron pauses to wait for your answer.

Aaeron says,

"Our last question requires you to study your channels
 list."

Aaeron asks, "Which channel is used for the discussion of buying/selling

 items in Aardwolf?"

Aaeron says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Aaeron stops to wait for your tell.

Aaeron says,

Geography training

Klau says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your geography training."

Klau says,

"The Aardwolf world is known as 'Andolor' meaning 'greatest
world' in ancient tongue. My lessons teach about the continents of
Andolor, how to use your map more effectively, exploration, portals,
 seasons and the weather."

Klau says,

"While some areas are hidden inside other areas, most are
located on continents. When you are on a continent, the 'bigmap' command
 is available."

Klau says,

"Bigmap shows a map of the continent; your current room is
shown as '*'. Each continent room also has coordinates that can be seen by
typing 'coordinates'. The rooms with question marks are exits to other
 areas."

Klau says,

"Reading 'help world' gives a good overview of the continents
and the game world. You will need information from this helpfile for my
 test at the end. "

Klau says,

"Please take some time to study 'help world' then type 'next'
when you are ready to move on."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"As you have already noticed, Aardwolf features a map showing
your immediate area. The map is extremely useful, displaying many things
including other characters around you, stores, area exits and doors."

Klau says,

"To turn dislay of the map on and off, use the 'automap'
command. To keep the map on while exploring but turned off during runs,
 use the 'maprun' command."

Klau says,

"The 'shortmap' and 'maptags' commands also modify how your map
displays. Read the helpfiles on each of these commands for more
 information."

Klau says,

"Some spells in the game also affect the map output. For
example, with the 'sense anger' spell, aggressive monsters are shown on
 the map as '!'."

Klau says,

"Read 'help map' to browse some of the other points of interest
displayed on the map then type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"Exploring Andolor can become an obsession and many adventurers
make this their primary focus. There are some tools in the game to help
you track which rooms you have explored."

Klau says,

"Typing 'explored' shows the number of explorable rooms in your
current area and how many of those rooms you have visited. It also shows
the total number of explorable rooms in the entire game and how many you
 have visited."

Klau says,

"To see areas in which you have explored at least one room,
type 'areas explored'. To see areas you have not yet fully explored, type
 'areas unexplored'."

Klau says,

"To see the top explorers on Aardwolf, type 'rank 15'. Feel
free to browse the other rankings while you're at it, type 'rank' to see a
list of them. To see a summary of your own standing on each ranking, type
'myrank'. However, at this stage, you are unlikely to be listed on any of
 them."

Klau says,

"Exploring 100% of Aardwolf is difficult, there are many quests
in areas that need to be completed in order to do this. Within the
Aardwolf community, these are known as 'area quests' or 'AQs'."

Klau says,

"Some area quests can be quite complex, but the clues are
there. Be careful to read descriptions carefully and 'listen' to
characters in areas for clues if you plan to complete area quests."

Klau says,

"Each time you enter a room, the full room description is
shown. The 'brief' command can be used to turn off automatic display of
room descriptions (they are still shown when you look), or to only show
descriptions the first time you enter a new room. Type 'brief' now to
 continue."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"Your primary means of getting from place to place in Andolor
is by walking or using the 'run' command. However, there are a few
 shortcuts I will briefly cover."

Klau says,

"Portals are commonly used throughout the game and allow you to
quickly get from one place to another. Portals in the room are entered by
using 'enter [portal name]'. To use portals in your inventory, hold the
 portal and type 'enter'."

Klau says,

"Some spells such as 'nexus' and 'chaos portal' create portals.
Other abilities such as 'wayfind' allow you to see the destination of a
 portal before entering."

Klau says,

"Some monsters in the game drop portals when killed. Most
portals are acquired as a reward for completing area quests. Having
completed the quest, the portal allows you to quickly return to the
 area."

Klau says,

"Custom portals can also be purchased with trivia points, see
'help trivia portals' for more on this."

Klau says,

"Some rooms prevent the use of the 'recall' command but still
allow portal entry. It is recommended to keep at least one portal in your
inventory at all times for this reason. You can also enter portals while
webbed, see 'help web' for details on this spell."

Klau says,

"In addition to portals, many spells and skills allow you to
move around Andolor more freely. Check out 'spells movement' and 'skills
movement' to see examples. Each ability listed has its own helpfile."

Klau says,

"I have mentioned a lot of help files in this lesson. Please
take some time to review them. Type next when you are ready to move on."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"We have now covered most of what I can teach you about
exploring Andolor; let's spend a little time talking about the world
 itself."

Klau says,

"Andolor has a detailed weather system and some areas have
their own weather patterns. For example, the Blood Desert on Alagh has a
very different weather pattern than the Icy Plains of Gelidus. Whenever
you are outside, type 'weather' to see the weather."

Klau says,

"A number of skills and spells in the game are affected by the
weather. The ranger spell 'call lightning' is a good example; it is very
powerful but can only be used during a storm."

Klau says,

"Magic in Andolor is highly influenced by the moons. There are
3 moons and their simple names are the white moon, grey moon and black
 moon."

Klau says,

"Magic is slightly more effective when the moon corresponding
to your alignment is in the sky, and much more effective when all 3 moons
are in the sky. Players focused on enchanting equipment watch the moons
 very carefully."

Klau says,

"Andolor has many seasons and its own time system. Knowing the
game time can often be important. For example, the creatures in the
graveyard only come out after dark and parts of other areas are only open
during certain times of the day. What time is considered 'dark' varies by
 the season."

Klau says,

"To see the time and season, use the 'time' command. Each 30
seconds of offline time (or each tick) is 1 hour in Andolor. Each season
has a slight influence on the game that you will learn as you explore."

Klau says,

"Take a look at the weather and season now. This room is
outdoors so you can see the weather. Type 'weather' then 'time' to move
 on."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"Good. Now type 'time' to continue your lessons."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"My final two lessons cover a little more on how to explore
 within each area."

Klau says,

"While exploring an area you will often encounter doors. Most
doors can be opened using 'open [direction]'. If a closed door is to the
north, typing 'open north' will open it."

Klau says,

"Other doors may be locked and require you to find a key or use
magic and skills to open them. You will often need to kill or bribe a
character to obtain a key, or buy it from a store. Once you have a key,
 'unlock [direction]' opens it."

Klau says,

"If a key is on the ground before a locked door, 'unlock'
automatically uses that key. Many adventurers will leave keys for others
to use, please leave them there."

Klau says,

"You may also encounter containers such as chests and desks
that can only be unlocked with a key. The commands are the same for
 these."

Klau says,

"Thieves have a skill called 'pick lock' that attempts to open
a lock without the key. Warriors can go for a more direct approach and use
'bashdoor'. Mages have a spell called 'knock' that can sometimes open a
 locked door."

Klau says,

"The 'passdoor' affect allows characters to walk through some
closed doors. The shadow race has pass door permanently. Pass door is also
available in a number of potions and can be purchased with quest points as
 a 'wish'."

Klau says,

"Regardless of all these, some doors are protected and can only
be unlocked with the correct key or item."

Klau says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on to my final
 lessons and learn about exits."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"Typing 'exits' in any room shows the list of visible exits.
You also see a summary of exits in the room each time you look. To turn
this on and off, use the 'autoexit' command. If the exits list shows ( )
around an exit name, that means the exit is closed."

Klau says,

"Some rooms show an exit as '[other]'. This means the exit is a
custom exit and not a standard direction. In this case, type 'exits' to
see the command needed to use that exit."

Klau says,

"Doors and custom exits are not always visible. Sometimes you
must explore and solve puzzles to determine the exits to use. For example,
examining a shelf may show that there is a hidden passage and the command
to enter is 'move shelf'. Other times, you just need to look around."

Klau says,

"Well <player>, my lessons are done. Feel free to restart, or
type 'next' when you are ready to move on to the quiz."

Klau pauses to wait for you.

Klau says,

"My quiz is a little longer than those you are used to. It also
requires some helpfile reading. I have a nice reward for you at the end.
 Here's your first question..."

Klau asks, "What type of room is represented as 'D' on the in-game map?" Klau says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Klau stops to wait for your tell.

Klau says,

"Refer to the lesson notes on my blackboard for help with this
 question."

Klau asks, "How many explorable rooms does Aardwolf have?" Klau says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Klau stops to wait for your tell.

Klau says,

"Refer to 'help world' for help with this question."

Klau asks, "Which continent is known as 'The Dark Continent'?" Klau says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Klau stops to wait for your tell.

Klau says,

"This was covered in my lesson, but you could always search
 help for 'portal destination' too."

Klau asks, "What skill allows a player to find the destination of a portal

 before entering it?"

Klau says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Klau stops to wait for your tell.

Klau says,

"For my final question, which of the following is least likely
to allow you to pass a locked door:"
  A) Unlocking it
  B) Using the knock spell
  C) Asking it nicely to open
  D) Bashing down the door
  E) Picking the lock
  F) Using the pass door effect

Klau says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Klau stops to wait for your tell.

Klau exclaims, "That is correct <player>!" Klau says,

"You have now completed geography training, well done. Take
this portal as a reward for your efforts."

You receive Aylorian Academy portal from Klau. You receive 50 experience points.

You receive 2,000 gold from Klau.

Social Studies training

Glimmer says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your social studies training."

Glimmer says,

"As a community with hundreds of players online at any given
time, the social side of Aardwolf is very important. You have already
learned about channels, friends and forums in communication training. My
lessons teach you about clans, other groups and finding resources out of
 the game."

Glimmer looks more serious. Glimmer says,

"It would be unfair to let you graduate without being aware
of the laws of Andolor; we will also discuss the game rules."

Glimmer says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on to learn
 about clans."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"Clans are groups of players following a common theme or
goal. To see a list of clans, type 'clist'."

Glimmer says,

"Clans are an extremely important part of the Aardwolf
community. Clans worship their own deity, have their own halls built by
their members, their own morgues, recall rooms and private portals. Clans
also have private and public shopkeepers selling their own equipment, and
 skills unique to each clan."

Glimmer says,

"To see rank names, leaders and other information for a
clan, use 'claninfo [clan name]'. To see a description of each clan's
 theme, type 'help [clan name]'."

Glimmer says,

"Most clans also list an external web site where you can
learn more about that clan. Clan web sites can be great resources for
further information on Aardwolf and often contain detailed maps, hints to
 area quests and other information."

Glimmer says,

"Please read 'help clans' then browse 'clist' and look at
'claninfo' for a few clans. When you are done, we will take a look at a
more serious side of clan life. Please type 'next' when you are ready."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"Browsing the list of clans, you will notice that most allow
their members to 'PK'. PK is an abbreviation for 'player killing'. Player
killing occurs when players fight each other rather than game controlled
 characters."

Glimmer says,

"For some, player killing can be the most thrilling part of
the game, testing your skills against others, laying traps and ambushing
enemy clans and grouping to raid another clan's hall. Read 'help pk' for
 more information on player killing."

Glimmer says,

"There is a complex and detailed alliance system. Clans can
be allied with each other, hostile, friendly, neutral or at war. Alliance
status with another clan determines how you may interact with other
 members of that clan."

Glimmer says,

"Read 'help allies' to see more details on the alliance
system. To see a clan's alliance status with other clans, use 'clanall
 [clan name]'."

Glimmer says,

"While some players find PK exciting, others do not enjoy it
at all. Some clans are considered 'nopk' clans and do not take part in the
PK system. Of course, membership of a clan does not have to be for life,
you can try both types of clan. Read 'help outcast' for more on this."

Glimmer says,

"In summary, clans are a very complex part of the game. Many
clans develop friendships that survive beyond their Aardwolf adventures.
Joining a clan is something you should consider very seriously before
 jumping in."

Glimmer says,

"The 'Disciples of Hassan' is a clan focused on new players
and helping others learn the game. It is often recommended as a starting
 clan."

Glimmer says,

"Whichever clan you join, before doing so you should talk to
the members, talk to others, get a feel for what each clan represents and
which is likely to suit you the best."

Glimmer says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to learn about some
of the other communities in Aardwolf."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"There are several other communities within Aardwolf. Each
race has its own channel (racetalk) and each guild has its own channel.
See 'help guild channels' for a list of those."

Glimmer says,

"The [Helpers] are a group of players who volunteer their
time to help new explorers learn the game. See 'help helper' for more
information on helpers. The helpers have their own channel and their own
 hall."

Glimmer says,

"Builders are players who help expand the world of Aardwolf
by developing areas of their own for others to explore. They may also
create quests of their own using the Lua scripting system. See 'help
builders' for more information on building in Aardwolf."

Glimmer says,

"Testers are players who volunteer their time to test new
Aardwolf features on another copy of the world before it makes it to the
live game. See 'help testers' for more information."

Glimmer says,

"There are many other groups and communities in Aardwolf.
Type 'help www' to see a list of useful Aardwolf related pages and
 resources."

Glimmer says,

"Please study those helpfiles then type 'next' when you are
 ready to move on."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"My next lesson covers the law. There are certain rules you
are expected to follow as you explore Andolor."

Glimmer says,

"The rules are in place to ensure that other players can
enjoy the game without harassment or personal attacks. The rules also
allow players to compete fairly without having to deal with other players
using multiple characters at the same time or bots to give themselves an
 advantage."

Glimmer says,

"Most rules are common sense. You don't abuse bugs, you
don't ruin the game for others and you don't cheat."

Glimmer says,

"Aardwolf is a fairly easy going environment and we don't
try to enforce what people do/say in terms of roleplay. There are many
ways to enjoy the game, you play how you like within the rules."

Glimmer says,

"The rules are well documented, I will not cover them in
detail here. Type 'rules' to see an overview. Most rules have a separate
 and more detailed 'policies' helpfile."

Glimmer says,

"If you ever have questions about the rules feel free to
contact a [Helper] or any member of the immortal team."

Glimmer coughs loudly. Glimmer says,

"Right, now that Ivar's lawyers are happy, let's move on to
"social studies" of a more personal nature. Please type 'next' to learn
 about marriage."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"During your adventures you may find that you develop
feelings for another player and wish to marry. There are a number of
 advantages to marriage in Aardwolf."

Glimmer says,

"As a married player, you have a 'spouse' channel that
allows you to communicate privately, you can share each other's owned
equipment and private manors, and, you have access to a reunion command
that transports you to your spouse."

Glimmer says,

"To see more details on marriage read 'help marriage'. Of
course, sometimes we all make mistakes, read 'help divorce' while you're
at it. There are no prenups; marry at your own risk. You can only have one
spouse; affairs are also at your own risk."

Glimmer says,

"This completes your social studies lessons. Type 'restart'
to see my lessons again or 'next' if you are ready for a short quiz."

Glimmer pauses to wait for you.

Glimmer says,

"My first question is about clans. The answer is on my
 blackboard..."

Glimmer asks, "What command is used to see rank names and other clan

 information?"

Glimmer says,

 "Please tell me your answer."

Glimmer stops to wait for your tell.

Glimmer says,

"You may need to read the 'rules' help file for this
question. Which of the following is NOT a law of Andolor:"
  A) No client controlled character, or "bots".
  B) No harassment of other players.
  C) Multiple characters are fine, but only one online at a time.
  D) No talking about how bad trolls smell.
  E) No personal attacks on public channels.

Glimmer says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Glimmer stops to wait for your tell.

Glimmer says,

"You may need to read the 'marriage' help file for this
question. Which of the following IS a benefit of marriage in Andolor:"
  A) Reduced tax rate.
  B) Personal "services".
  C) Being able to share each other's equipment.
  D) Being able to start a family.
  E) Friendly and supportive in-laws.

Glimmer says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Glimmer stops to wait for your tell.

Career training

Wolfie says,

"You have completed most of the academy lessons now <player>.
You are close to graduation and may be asking yourself "now what?". My
lessons cover some of the different ways you can play Aardwolf and paths
you may take after graduating from the academy."

Wolfie says,

"Several of the things I need to teach you about are complex
areas of the game. I will focus more on making you aware of options than
teaching exactly how to use them. Read the helpfiles and experiment at
 your leisure."

Wolfie says,

"There is no single best approach, but right after graduation
I recommend that you spend some time getting familiar with your guild
abilities, explore some of the lower level areas and start to quest."

Wolfie says,

"You are likely to uncover some additional tasks and goals
while exploring the lower level areas. Completing these is always
optional, but worthwhile. Questing is covered in more detail in a few
 lessons."

Wolfie says,

"Ultimately, to progress in Andolor, you earn experience to
gain levels, which in turn allows you to increase your stats and gain new
skills and spells to become more powerful."

Wolfie says,

"When you reach level 200, you can 'superhero' and continue
gaining levels to add stats, or can choose to 'remort' and add another
guild. At this point in your career, you will want to remort and add new
guilds, staying at level 201 may be wasted effort later on."

Wolfie says,

"When you have all 7 guilds and reach level 201 again, you
have the option to 'retier' which basically means starting over, but with
a number of benefits that make it very worthwhile. Read 'help tier' for
more information on this. There are 10 tiers in total."

Wolfie says,

"How quickly or slowly you do this is up to you. Some people
choose to gain levels as quickly as possible while others take their time
and enjoy all the other options we provide."

Wolfie says,

"You will go from level 1 to level 200 many times during your
adventures. You can also pace yourself; explore a few areas and features
 in detail each time around."

Wolfie says,

"A common alternative career choice is to intentionally stay
at a lower level; taking time to build up quest points and learn the game
before moving on. More on this later."

Wolfie says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"Your primary guild and how you train your stats are very
 important to your character's development."

Wolfie says,

"As you progress through the game you will learn additional
skills and spells from other guilds via the 'remort' feature. To remort,
you must first 'superhero' which costs 800 quests points. Starting quests
 early is highly recommended."

Wolfie says,

"While these abilities can be extremely useful, you are more
powerful in the skills and spells from your main guild. Identifying the
stats most important to your primary guild can help you progress much more
 quickly."

Wolfie says,

"How you develop your character is mostly down to personal
preference. You can be an explorer, an enchanter, focus on healing others,
on curing, on crafting, on skinning and, of course, on killing."

Wolfie says,

"You may hear other players talking about their 'build',
saying they are "built" for enchanting, or pk, or gaining levels. This
refers to how your stats are trained to achieve different goals. There is
also an option to retrain your stats for a different focus. More on this
can be seen in 'help rebuild'."

Wolfie says,

"Your race is also important. Wolves are great hunters and
perfect for questing, but a large fire vulnerability can make them a poor
choice for fighting other players. Shadows make good explorers due to
their pass door ability, but don't take them into combat against a cleric,
 they don't like the light."

Wolfie says,

"Your race can be changed each time you 'remort' and primary
class can be changed with each 'tier', so you can choose to play the game
one way for a while, then another."

Wolfie says,

"Which class or race is "better" is an endless debate.
Complete your academy training to learn the basics of the game,
experiment, explore, then decide which is best for you."

Wolfie says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on to learn
 about mob quests."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"One of the most important activities while exploring Andolor
is mob quests. Mob quests are assignments from various questmasters in the
realm to find and kill a single monster in your level range."

Wolfie says,

"Mob quests teach you how to explore and how to find
monsters. You can quest every 30 minutes and each successful completion of
a quest is rewarded with some 'quest points' and gold. Questmasters
sometimes reward successful quests with bonus training sessions, practice
 sessions and trivia points."

Wolfie says,

"Quest points are very important to the development of your
character. They are necessary to reach the highest level of the game and
'remort'. Quest points are also used to buy some of the most useful items
in the game, to buy 'wishes' and can be used to purchase trivia points."

Wolfie says,

"Questing is also a great way to play when you are busy doing
something else. While 'botting' is not allowed, sitting online and
questing every 30 minutes is fine."

Wolfie says,

"To learn more about mob quests, read 'help quests'. To see a
list of some of the options that can be purchased with quest points, see
'help quest items' and 'help wishes'."

Wolfie says,

"I am a quest giver myself so feel free to try a quest here
by typing 'quest request'. You do not have to complete the quest to finish
this lesson, but you do need to have completed some quests to graduate."

Wolfie says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to learn about other
 career options."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"In addition to quests, you can choose to try a 'campaign'
each level. Campaigns are similar to quests but involve multiple targets,
are harder, and generally have higher rewards."

Wolfie says,

"See 'help campaigns' for more information on campaigns.
Commander Barcett in Aylor assigns campaigns to adventurers. Use 'find
campaign' from anywhere in Aylor to locate him."

Wolfie says,

"Please make sure you understand your lessons fully and are
well prepared before taking on a campaign, many adventurers return from
campaigns one piece at a time."

Wolfie says,

"Global quests, or 'gquests' are a competitive form of
campaign attempted by several players in a level range at once. Multiple
targets are assigned and the first person to kill them all wins the global
 quest."

Wolfie says,

"As a new adventurer, winning a global quest is very
difficult as you are competing against more experienced players. You
receive a small number of quest points for each successful kill so you do
not have to win a global quest to benefit from taking part. 'Help gquest'
contains more detail on global quests."

Wolfie says,

"Take some time to study 'help campaigns' and 'help gquest'.
Type 'next' when you are ready to continue."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"You have already used the 'goals' and 'task' system while
working through the academy. The quest types I have mentioned so far are
smaller quests that usually involve killing something for a reward. Those
quests are automatically generated and are repeatable."

Wolfie says,

"Goals are much more involved quests, usually with a
storyline, and require many actions to complete."

Wolfie says,

"As you explore Andolor, characters will ask for your help
and unlock goals or tasks for you to complete. Completing and solving all
of the 'area quests' is a long term goal for some players and will keep
you occupied, and sometimes frustrated, for many hours."

Wolfie says,

"Most goals have a reward at the end. Some can be repeated
but act differently if you have already done them while others, such as
graduating from the academy, can only be done once. New goals and tasks
are added to the game frequently."

Wolfie says,

"This completes the section on questing as a career option.
Type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"Player killing or 'pk' is covered in more detail in the
social studies training. At higher levels, many players make a career out
of player killing as it provides endless variety and challenge."

Wolfie says,

"No encounter with another player is ever quite the same.
Each player trains their stats and abilities differently and the strategy
to fight another player can vary greatly based on their class and subclass
 vs your own."

Wolfie says,

"Player killing is not for everyone, but there are several
ways to test your skills against others without actually "killing"
 them."

Wolfie says,

"The war zone is an area where groups of players can fight
each other without any penalties for losing. There are guild wars, race
wars, clan wars and free-for-all genocide wars. See 'help warfare' for
 more information."

Wolfie says,

"You do not automatically see warfare messages. Type 'nowar'
to turn them on if you have not already done so."

Wolfie says,

"You can also challenge other players one on one in a penalty
free environment using the duel system. See 'help duel' for more
 information on this."

Wolfie says,

"Finally, there are some rooms in Andolor that are considered
'combat maze' rooms. Players can fight each other in these rooms without
any restrictions, and there are no penalties for dying."

Wolfie says,

"This covers most of the options for testing your skills
against others. Type 'next' when you are ready to move on and learn about
 the rankings."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"Rankings are a way to track your progress and list the
achievements of other players in a number of categories."

Wolfie says,

"Type 'rank' on its own to see a list of the rankings. To see
 each ranking, use 'rank [number]'."

Wolfie says,

"To see a summary of your own standing in each ranking use
the 'myrank' command. To see how close you are to others on a specific
ranking use 'myrank [number]'. Each ranking has a minimum requirement to
be listed, these are listed in 'help rankings'."

Wolfie says,

"Climbing the rankings can be addictive and is just one more
way you can play your character. Working on just one ranking alone, such
as the explored ranking, can occupy you for many hours."

Wolfie says,

"Please type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"Not all of the pastimes in Andolor are there to develop your
character; some are there just for fun."

Wolfie says,

"Ivar's Casino in Aylor features a number of blackjack tables
to gamble your gold and there is a full implementation of Poker in the
game. To see more on these, read 'help blackjack' and 'help poker'. You
will also see immortal sponsored poker tournaments from time to time."

Wolfie says,

"There is also a 'lasertag' game using magic nobody quite
understands, brought back from the depths of Vidblain."

Wolfie says,

"Players and Immortals may run 'trivia' sessions where you
answer questions about Aardwolf or other subjects to win prizes. There are
many other special events and side games to take part in."

Wolfie says,

"Newer players tend to enjoy these games because your level
and stats do not matter. The 'announce' forum and the 'gametalk' channels
are the best places to learn about these events as they occur."

Wolfie says,

"We are almost done with my lessons <player>. Please type
'next' when you are ready to learn more about the social side of the
 game."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"As you have seen, there are many ways to play the game.
There is no "right way" to play. The "right way" is whatever suits you
 best."

Wolfie says,

"Some players focus more on following the social side of the
game. Helping their clan or running for clan leadership, helping new
users, chatting to friends, taking part in the forums, building new areas
 or testing new game features."

Wolfie says,

"Of course, there is nothing to stop you from doing a little
of everything. The interactions with other players combined with hundreds
of commands and abilities, plus thousands of rooms and monsters to hunt
mean that the game is never quite the same each time you play. The whole
point is to have fun. I hope you do <player>."

Wolfie says,

"This completes my lessons. There is no quiz or assignment
for this lesson. However, you will need to have completed at least 3
quests by the time you graduate. Might as well start now by typing 'quest
request'. It doesn't matter if you fail, just wait and try again."

Wolfie says,

"To see my lessons again type 'restart', or type 'next' to
complete this part of your academy training."

Wolfie pauses to wait for you.

Wolfie says,

"You have now completed career training, well done."

You receive 50 experience points.

You receive 2,000 gold from Wolfie.

Customization training

Lao says,

"Welcome, <player>. Please type 'start' when you are ready to
 start your configuration studies training."

Lao says,

"Your final lesson is about commands to customize how Aardwolf
appears to you, and how you appear to Aardwolf."

Lao says,

"There are many configuration options that change game output,
display of damage, color settings and channels. Other configuration
options allow you to change options that other players have for
interacting with you, and add additional information about your
 character."

Lao says,

"The most important of these is the 'config' command. Typing
'config all' shows a list of options that can be turned on and off by
 typing the listed command."

Lao says,

"The purpose of these config options varies greatly. I recommend
you browse the list and the short description, then read the individual
helpfiles on any of the commands you are more interested in. Commands from
'config all' will also be in my test at the end of your lessons."

Lao says,

"Please browse the config list for a while, then type 'next'
when you are ready to move on."

Lao pauses to wait for you.

Lao says,

"In addition to config options, there are options to change how
damage is displayed, what notifications you receive at login, custom color
settings and what updates you receive from the game. I will now cover each
 of these in turn."

Lao says,

"The 'damage' command alters how you see damage in combat. The
default setting is that each hit is shown as a single line. Other 'damage'
settings allow you to display a single line containing the average per
round of combat or the total damage per round of combat. Type 'damage' by
 itself to see the options."

Lao says,

"The 'notify' command allows you to change the notifications
received at login. See 'help notify' for help on changing login
 notifications."

Lao says,

"The 'info' command allows you to change which game events you
see, including player deaths, new users, clan recruitment and new notes.
Type 'info' by itself for a list of options."

Lao says,

"The 'colorset' command is used to change the default colors for
many different types of game output such as room names and other players.
Colorset is also used to customize the default output color for channels.
Type 'colorset' by itself to see options and 'colorset status' to see your
 current settings."

Lao says,

"The 'prompt' and 'bprompt' commands were covered briefly in
battle training but are worth repeating. Your prompt can be customized to
display many extra pieces of information you may find useful. See 'help
prompt' for more details. Prompt variables will also be in your test."

Lao says,

"This completes the most important config options that change
how Aardwolf displays to you. Please type 'next' when you are ready to
move on to changing how others see your character."

Lao pauses to wait for you.

Lao says,

"There are a number of optional commands that change how your
own character is seen by others. I will discuss several of these now."

Lao says,

"The 'title' command changes what people see when they 'look' in
a room. If you were to enter 'title is a fierce warrior!', others would
see "<player> is a fierce warrior!" when entering your room. More details
 are in 'help title'."

Lao says,

"The 'pretitle' command is an option similar to 'title' but is a
short phrase that displays before your name. If you set your pretitle to
'Guardian', your full name when interact with others would be 'Guardian
 <player>'."

Lao says,

"The title command is always available while pretitles cost
trivia points to add. Some players find pretitles confusing so there is
also a 'nopretitle' config option to turn off display of pretitles."

Lao says,

"When other players look at you, they see what equipment you are
using and a description. Your description can be customized using the
'desc' command. See 'help desc' for how to enter the description editor
 and the commands available."

Lao says,

"If you type 'finger [player name]', you may see additional
information about a player such as an email address, a web site or where
 they're from."

Lao says,

"This information is completely optional, but entering an email
address is recommended. You can use 'email private' to flag your email
address as only visible to game administration. Your email address is only
ever used for important game news and password recovery should you lose
 access to your character."

Lao says,

"To enter a web site on your character information use the 'www'
command. To enter your location, use the 'from' command. Setting from
allows others to find you. For example, typing 'who from florida' shows
any players online with 'Florida' in their from location."

Lao says,

"Sometimes you need to go away from the keyboard for a while.
The 'afk' command is used to set your character as away. You can also set
a custom message that anyone sending you a tell while afk will see. The
'afkmsg' command is used for this."

Lao says,

"This covers the most important informational settings for your
character. My last lesson covers a few commands that change how others can
interact with you. Type 'next' when you are ready to move on."

Lao pauses to wait for you.

Lao says,

"By default, you do not allow other players to loot your corpse.
The 'noloot' command turns this off but is generally not recommended. The
'consent' command allows you to create a small list of players who can
 loot your corpse."

Lao says,

"The 'consent' command is useful if you need help with a corpse
retrieval; temporarily adding someone to your consent list allows them to
 retrieve your equipment for you."

Lao says,

"The 'visto' command allows you to create a small list of
players that can always see you, even if you are invisible or sneaking.
More on this can be seen in 'help visto'."

Lao says,

"The most important configuration options are under 'config
all'. If there is one thing you do after taking my lesson, please study
that list. Some options such as 'noexp' or 'nospam' can have a huge affect
 on your gameplay."

Lao says,

"Please type 'restart' if you would like to repeat my lessons.
Otherwise, type 'next' to move on to the quiz."

Lao pauses to wait for you.

Lao asks, "The answer to my first question can be found in 'config all'.

Which config command toggles the display of enemy health after each round
 of combat?"
  A) Nospam.
  B) Nohealthinfo.
  C) Nostatus.
  D) Quiet.
  E) Battlespam.

Lao says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Lao stops to wait for your tell.

Lao asks, "The answer to this question can be found in 'help prompt'. What

does '%X' display when added to your prompt?"
  A) Exits in the room.
  B) Total experienced gained.
  C) Saved tells waiting for you.
  D) Current room name.
  E) Experience required to next level.

Lao says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Lao stops to wait for your tell.

Lao says,

"Which command allows a specific player to loot your corpse"
  A) Group.
  B) Noloot.
  C) Autoloot.
  D) Consent.
  E) Marry.

Lao says,

"Please tell me the letter of your answer."

Lao stops to wait for your tell.

Lao says,

"You have now completed configuration training, well done."

You receive 50 experience points. You receive 2,000 gold from Lao.
