NASCAARD is a script-based, player-run fantasy racing league run weekly on
Aardwolf with 2007 being the inaugural season. Players create sponsors,
teams, and numbers, and through a series of dice rolls, run laps around a
virtual track, with gold payouts for almost all race participants (top 20).
NASCAARD race information is posted on the Games board.

On race day, players meet at the designated spot. An entrance fee is taken
from each participating player (normally 100,000 gold). Pre-race
festivities, including the singing of the Aardwolf National Anthem and
the race invocation then occur. Players that sponsor the race, also act as
the Grand Marshall of the race, saying the most famous words in racing,
Ladies and Gentleman! Start your engines!

Once all race fees are collected, qualifying begins. Each player is told
to roll 1d100 (dice 1 100) and qualifying position are determined by the
lowest number going first (In the case of ties, racers are added in
alphabetical order). After qualifying, the invocation is given, followed
by the National Anthem, and those famous words in Racing.
Once the race begins, players roll 1d6 (dice 1 6) in order, based upon
position at the beginning of the lap. The following possible results occur
based upon the die roll:
1 - Player catches a break and automatically gains a position.
2 - Player stays in current position.
3 - Player challenges player in position in front of him/her (see below).
4 - Player stays in current position.
5 - Player slips and is challenged by player behind him/her (see below).
6 - Player is loose and automatically loses a position.
 * With the addition of cars being a lap down, the effect of the roll may
not gain or cost positions.

Positions are actively updated - a player only rolls once per lap, but can
be passed by or watch others lose positions by more than one player (based
upon die rolls) per turn. Note that if you are a lap down, you must pass
the leader to get back onto the lead lap. This will be very tricky and
may cause you to be one (or a few) laps down for most of the race. It will
take strategy in the 2008 season to ensure peek performance within
NASCAARD.

In a challenge, each player is requested to roll 2d10 (dice 2 10). The
player with the lower total takes (or keeps) the higher position. Two
special events may also occur
on a roll of 2, two positions are gained
rather than one. On a roll of 20, the player crashes and is put a few laps
down.

Lead Lap versus Lap Down Drivers: After each lap, the positions of the
race are displayed. If the drivers name is followed by a (-1), that
signifies that they are a lap down. That driver must then pass the leader
to gain a lap back. Once that is accomplished, they will battle those
drivers on that lap for positions. A driver that is a lap down will not
gain any new spots on those drivers on the lead lap, but will gain
positions against those on that drivers lap (example, Lasher, Rezit (-1),
and Ivar (-1). This means that Ivar can still pass Rezit for a position,
but not Lasher).

Once the final lap is done, racers will receive prize money based upon
their positions. Points are awarded similar to actual NASCAR points (minus
bonus points for laps led, leader, etc.). The 'Race for the Cup' at the
end of the season will be determined by driver points. The people who can
be in contention for the Cup, will be those in the top 12 positions after
the 26th race. There are 36 races within the NASCAARD Season.

 CHANGES TO NASCAARD V2

Changes to NASCAARD V2 are as follows:

Race Tracks - Four different variants of race tracks were created: the
Superspeedway, a Road Course, an Intermediate Track, and a Short Track.
Each of these tracks has varying properties to them that will affect fuel
mileage and tire wear.

Team Play - Race teams may now actually race as a team. If you and your
teammates whisper 'asteam' during the registration phase. You will not
challenge each other. If the car in front does roll a 1d6 equalling 6,
they will move back one position because of their 'driving error.'

Fuel Consumption - Fuel percentage will be whispered to you during every
Dice 1d6 roll. If your fuel percentage reaches 0 percent, you will run
out of fuel and cause a caution flag.

Tire Wear - Tire Wear has been added as a percentage that will be whispered
to you the same as your Fuel Consumption. If your tires reach 15 percent,
you will not have enough grip for the race track and will most likely hit
the wall, thus causing a caution flag.

Caution Flags - In the event of a caution either by running out of fuel,
blowing a tire, or after the result of a challenge roll which resulted in
a dice 2d10 equallying 20, a caution flag will come out. The positions
will be frozen and the ability to pit will be available.

Pitting - There are two types of pitting within NASCAARD V2. A green flag
and a caution flag pit stop. On both options, you can change tires, add
fuel, or do both. On a green flag pit stop, you will lose a lap because
the leader will have passed you while you were in the pits. If you are
under a caution flag, you will not lose a lap, but you will go to the
back of the line for those on your lap.

Lead Lap - These are people who are on the same lap as the leader of the
race. Laps are added to the player after a dice 1d6 roll. If you cause
a caution flag to come out, you will be at least one lap down and must
battle your way back onto the lead lap.

Green, White, Checkered Finish - If a caution is called within three
laps of the end of the race, a Green, White, Checkered Flag finish will
be attempted. If there is a caution flag called after the white flag
is displayed, the race is ended, as is. There is only one attempt at a
green, white, checkered flag finish during a race.

Laps Led, Most Laps Led - these have been added to the database and
will be added to the points calculation for 2008. 5 points for any
driver that leads a lap. An additional 5 points for the driver that
leads the most laps.

Wins, Top5s, Top10s - These are now calculated within the database.
They will be added to reports on the Games board throughout the season.
For any questions regarding the race, rules, setting up a team, etc., see
Rezit.
