Note: For information on disbanding a clan completely see 'help clandisband'

There are many reasons two clans might merge and the "why" is between the
members of those two clans. Clans members will want to carefully consider
their choices between disbanding (outcast but with clan funds shared
between members) and merge (still belong to the clan, keep existing
 equipment).

For a clan merge to be established, the active membership of both
clans must take a vote and a majority in both clans is required for the
merger to take place. Active is defined as online within the last 30 days
prior to the vote. There is one vote per person, alts do not count.

The key questions that two clans merging will have are answered below. We
will add to this as new questions are asked and answered:

 * It is not possible to merge two clans into a third one. One clan
(the 'from' clan) merges into another and then goes away.

 * Existing clan equipment already in the game belonging to the "from"
clan will be set to the new clan. No loss of equipment, either member
   owned or raided.

 * Gold and quest points in the account of the 'from' clan are
transferred over to the target clan. Member donated amounts do not
   reset back to zero.

 * Previous amounts of gold / qp invested in the clan hall are lost.
There is no transfer of these assets.

 * The clan may choose which of the two V1 and V2 clan skills to keep
   but cannot have both.

 * Rank names are not transferred - members transferring to the new
clan become the equivalent rank in the new clan, with the exception of
leaders - the two clans have to decide who the leaders of the new clan
   will be.

 * Any open shop part of the "from" clan hall will remain accessible.
The rest will be unlinked from the game. Former members or anyone
genuinely interested in preserving the history of the original clan
is welcome to approach us to discuss recycling it into a real area with
that clan's theme (unless that clan theme is copyrighted and had a pass
   all these years, sorry Baal).

 * The original clan helpfile can remain to preserve the history of
the former clan and updated to add a 'storyline' about how the merge
came to be if appropriate. See 'help Romani' as an example.

If you have other questions about a clan merge or clan disband feel free
to write a note to imm, but note that we cannot make exceptions to this
policy for specific clans, once it goes into effect it will be the same
 rules for all.

The following is a list of followup questions and answers from the
 original discussion of clan merges:

 Hoarding Equipment before merge
 -------------------------------
Saw the potential for this before posting. Not particularly happy with it
but that's the way our clan system works. There is nothing other than cost
to prevent mass rotating / hoarding of equipment within a clan already and,
in this case, the "cost" for that eq has already been paid and is being
 lost right after the merge.

Can see the temptation to set owned / noreown on it but don't like the fact
that the "from" clan in the merger gets the benefit of both sets of equipment
while the "target" clan doesn't. Also reserving the right change this answer
(or *any* of these answers) as the discussion continues.

 Will manor links transfer?
 --------------------------
Whether or not manor links transfer will be up to the 'target' clan.
They can either kill the links or they can give us a replacement target
room. All or nothing on these, trust the new clan or don't, or outcast
specific members if you need to.

How will the voting be handled?
 -------------------------------
Personal notes to Lasher. Gives members the ability to vote anonymously
if they prefer. Votes will run for 30 days giving members on vacation
etc time to vote. If there is clear majority before that time the vote
 will end.

Can a PK and noPK clan merge?
 -----------------------------
I want to say "yes" but there might be loopholes with equipment / other
allowances of PK vs NOPK clans? Seems that NOPK -> PK would work out ok
but PK -> NOPK might need further discussion.

Can the clans merge into a new name?
 ------------------------------------
No, one of the clans has to remain as they are.

 Starting the Merge Process
 --------------------------

To start the merge process, notify Lasher that you intend to merge. Once
you receive confirmation from Lasher a leader of *both* clans will need
to post a note to their members to kick off the voting. To vote a member
notes Lasher with their Yes/No choice. Voting will last for 30 days or
until there is a clear majority in both clans.

Assuming the vote goes forward, the following information will be needed:

 * A list of the leaders after the merge. Max of 5.

 * Whether or not manorlinks of the target clan will be preserved.

 * Which clan skill should be kept. One V1 skill and one V2 skill.

 * When members of the old clan first login after the merge they will
receive a note which you can customize. An example template to work
from is in 'help clanmergenote'. Feel free to use something completely
different but try to include the important info if possible.

 * (Optional) What you would like to see posted on announce right
   after the clans merge.
