Starling

Starling was born on May 7, 1981 and started playing Aardwolf in late 1997 at the age of 16, when she saw a classmate playing the game in her high school library. The character Starling was created on or about Nov. 28, 1999. She is named after the bird; the starling is strong and resourceful, gregarious and assertive.

Character

Hildebrandt's Starling.
Starling is a very colorful character.

Starling is a Tier 9 Human Thief. She prefers playing a melee character because she does not wish to rely on special attacks as her primary source of damage. Melee damage is free and always available; caster-crippling, zero-mana situations pose much less of a threat to a thief. There's no need to carry a large supply of mana potions, and no need to worry about purse-cutting mobs. Starling focuses on strength, dexterity, and luck as her primary stats. Wisdom and constitution are her secondary stats, and intellect is her dump stat. Starling also stacks damage roll and, where feasible, hit roll. Starling aims for efficiency via both killing speed and good damage mitigation.

Starling's equipment is mostly standard issue - open clan items enchanted for maximum luck/wisdom and damage roll, various quest and trivia items, with a few raided and gameload pieces. She acquires upgrades as they become available, and is actively working on her 200+ sets. Her weapons are dual Aardwolf daggers every 10 levels, up to 290. Most of these are keepflagged, due to level-based restrictions on item saving that existed when the weapons were purchased.

Starling's manor is located in the Aardwolf Estates 2000.

Starling has the following 26 wishes: Bravery, Duration, Exprate, Fasthunt, Gills, Identify, Nightvision, Nodirt, Nohunger, Nomarbu, Noteleport, Novorpal, Noweb, Passdoor, Pockets, Pockets2, Pockets3, Pockets4, Portal, Scholar, Showscry, Spellup2, Spellup3, Statcost, Uncurse, and Weaponsmaster.

Current status; past activity and absences; future plans

As of August 1, 2010 Starling is active on Aardwolf.

Starling's current plan is to quest-sit level 1 for the time being.

Previously, Starling was active on Aardwolf from 1999 through late 2005, at which time her real-life friends convinced her to start playing World of Warcraft. During her time there, she logged into Aardwolf every few months to touch base with friends and to avoid having her character archived, but was otherwise absent from the community. In October of 2008 Starling returned to Aardwolf, having cancelled her WoW account due to bad changes (mostly PvP-related) that occurred shortly before the release of WoW's second expansion.
