Location: Home / / Delight I was born on a small tenant farm on the outskirts of Reinhold. My parents named me after the joy they shared upon receiving their first child. I grew up poor but happy with little education. At the age of sixteen I was sent to the near by Mega-City One to sell the few extra crops we had. The sight I returned to horrified me. Our castle raided and our town pillaged and destroyed, I ran home to find my parents and two younger siblings slaughtered by the heartless raiders. My eyes full of tears and my known life in shambles I fled the ruins to escape certain death. I wandered the trails many days wondering what would be come of me. Knowing nothing else, I lived meagerly on berries I found along my journey. Tired and ill from starvation, a kind man found me and nursed me back to health. Upon hearing my story, he took me in as an apprentice, training me in the arts of combat and sorcery. He taught me the ways of the land and of the people. I owe him my life and honour. Many years passed as I learned from the man the ways of life and how to survive. My apprenticeship complete he bestowed upon me a small silver ring that I treasure and will wear always. In the next years, I traveled the world meeting new people and strange faces. I made my way through life, helping those who called for assistance, visiting the local quest master, searching for those whom have betrayed Mota with their crimes and sharpening my skills as an adventurer in the many lands filled with vile creatures of wickedness. Always, in the back of my mind and buried in my heart, were the visions of my dead family. The site of my home destroyed, the sounds of violence and screams of innocence filling my ears, and the smell of the burning crops mingled with death haunted me in my dreams. At last, I knew I could bare the visions any longer. I returned to ruins of Castle Reinhold, my childhood home, and stood before the emptiness that had once contained such life. The raiders gone, the bodies long since decayed and returned to the earth. I laid down on what was once my small wooden bed and wept. Searching within myself, my anger, my frustration, my soul, I looked for any way I could overcome the deeds which had plagued my life. I found nothing. I did the only thing that I could think of to release the pain and the misery of justice denied. Releasing my dagger from its sheath, I looked up through roofless manor to the sky in a silent prayer of redemption, and in one swift move, made myself to joined the many souls that met the maker on this day 10 years before. Dark and cold, my mind stirred with activity. The whirlwind of thoughts and emotions I felt seemed to betray the commitment I had resigned myself to as the dagger entered my chest. I sat up, still on the bed that I had chosen as my final rest. Bewildered, I searched the small home, unsure of what I was seeking. In the back of the house, stood a silver glowing nexus which made me weep for its beauty. This was the next step. I took a deep breath which seemed to do little to arouse me. As if the sweet air was an empty void of nothingness that I no longer needed to survive. I closed my eyes and stepped into the glowing portal. "This is not a second chance, Delight," a voice whispered into my mind. "You have committed yourself to a wrong in the world that will forever go unredeemed. Now, without death as an option, you have taken a new role. No longer are you an adventurer, but an immortal stuck to the cause for which you have given your mortality". I spun around desperately looking for something or someone that might be producing the words that echoed through my heart and mind. "You are committed to the ways of justice. To see that each life in the world, is given the opportunity to live as it was intended, without the chaotic forces of the world that fight the ways of destiny. This is your challenge, Delight, to stop forces similar to what destroyed your childhood, your innocence and your will to live. You are a keeper of life and freedom to live". I will serve out my duty with all that is me. | |||
